TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

Kazakhmys PLC announces that on 17 October 2011 it purchased from J.P. Morgan Securities Ltd. 120,000 ordinary shares at an average price of 900.5097 pence per share. The highest price paid was 936.5 pence per share and the lowest price paid was 864.5 pence per share. The purchased shares will be held as treasury shares. Following the above purchase, Kazakhmys PLC holds 977,976 ordinary shares in treasury and has 534,262,362 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares).
