TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

Kazakhmys PLC announces that on 7 October 2011 it purchased from Citigroup Global Markets U.K. Equity Limited 135,000 ordinary shares at an average price of 848.4218 pence per share. The highest price paid was 863.0 pence per share and the lowest price paid was 827.0 pence per share. The purchased shares will be held as treasury shares. Following the above purchase, Kazakhmys PLC holds 595,500 ordinary shares in treasury and has 534,644,838 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares).
