TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

Kazakhmys PLC announces that on 2 May 2012 it purchased from Citigroup Global Markets U.K. Equity Limited 117,000 ordinary shares at an average price of 860.7247 pence per share. The highest price paid was 882.5 pence per share and the lowest price paid was 848.5 pence per share. The purchased shares will be held as treasury shares. Following the above purchase, Kazakhmys PLC holds 11,189,830 ordinary shares in treasury and has 524,228,131 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares).
