Transaction in Own Shares

Grainger plc announces that on 15 January 2009 it purchased through JP Morgan Cazenove Limited 169,987 ordinary shares at an average price of 107.88 pence per share. The purchased shares will be held as treasury shares and it is intended that the shares will be used to satisfy the requirements of the Group's employee share schemes. Following the above purchase, Grainger plc holds 169,987 ordinary shares as treasury shares. The total number of ordinary shares in issue (excluding shares held as treasury shares) is 138,627,120.
