Transaction in own shares

Thomas Cook Group plc announces that on 29 September 2008 it purchased 1,161,062 ordinary shares for cancellation. The highest price paid per share was 215.5 pence (excluding expenses) and the lowest price paid was 199.9 pence (excluding expenses).

As a result of these purchases Thomas Cook Group plc will purchase 1,299,649 ordinary shares in aggregate from Arcandor AG and KarstadtQuelle Freizeit GmbH at a price of 206.6767 pence per share, which is the average price paid for the shares reported above.
