Rio Tinto plc announces that today it transferred to participants in its employee share schemes the following number of its ordinary shares of 10p each, which were previously held as treasury shares.

Further to the announcement made on 12 June concerning a transaction in own shares, the Company reports that the correct number of shares transferred out of treasury was 90,000 Rio Tinto plc shares and not 62,890 as previously stated.
Following the above transactions, Rio Tinto plc holds 5,545,890 ordinary shares as
treasury shares. The total number of ordinary shares in issue (excluding shares
held as treasury shares) is 998,972,340.
