TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

Kazakhmys PLC announces that on 3 January 2012 it purchased from Citigroup Global Markets U.K. Equity Limited 49,890 ordinary shares at an average price of 964.2381 pence per share. The highest price paid was 965.5 pence per share and the lowest price paid was 943.5 pence per share. The purchased shares will be held as treasury shares. Following the above purchase, Kazakhmys PLC holds 5,609,600 ordinary shares in treasury and has 529,808,361 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares).
