WH Smith PLC - Transactions in Own Shares

WH Smith PLC (the "Company") announces that on 15 August 2011 it purchased for cancellation from J.P. Morgan Securities Ltd. 100,000 ordinary shares at an average price of 461.51 pence per ordinary share.

This purchase is a continuation of the WH Smith share buyback programme. In the light of the exceptional market conditions the WH Smith share buyback programme has been extended up to £55m, utilising the existing authority granted at the Annual General Meeting.
