Anglo American PLC22 May 2006 Anglo American plc (the "Company") Purchases of shares in Anglo American plc Further to the announcement of 23 March 2006 (a copy of which is available onthe Company's website), Anglo American plc purchased 1,075,000 of its ordinaryshares on 19 May 2006 at prices between £20.39 and £21.27 per share. Thepurchased shares will all be held as treasury shares. Anglo American plc also announces that on 19 May 2006 the independent companyreferred to in the announcement of 23 March 2006 purchased 390,000 ordinaryshares of Anglo American plc at prices equivalent to between £20.73 and £21.40per share. Following the above transactions, Anglo American plc holds 23,538,702 ordinaryshares in treasury, and has 1,504,526,987 ordinary shares in issue (excludingtreasury shares) and the independent company holds 3,844,549 ordinary shares,representing 0.26 per cent of Anglo American plc's ordinary shares in issue(excluding treasury shares).
