TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

Kazakhmys PLC announces that on 18 October 2011 it purchased from J.P. Morgan Securities Ltd. 114,000 ordinary shares at an average price of 860.9058 pence per share. The highest price paid was 882.5 pence per share and the lowest price paid was 831.0 pence per share. The purchased shares will be held as treasury shares. Following the above purchase, Kazakhmys PLC holds 1,091,976 ordinary shares in treasury and has 534,148,362 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares).
