27 July, 2011 Daily Mail and General Trust plc (`DMGT') Transaction in own shares

DMGT has today transferred out of treasury 27,719 'A' Ordinary Non-Voting shares at a price of £4.203 in order to make an award of shares to meet the vesting (net of tax) of core awards made on 14 December 2009 to a participant in the DMGT Long Term Incentive Plan. The share price was that at the close of business on Tuesday 26 July, 2011.

Following this transfer, the total number of 'A' Ordinary Non Voting Shares held in treasury is 9,803,128 and the total number of 'A' Ordinary Non Voting Shares in issue after deducting shares held in treasury is 362,971,520.
