BRISTOW'S TRANS-AFRICA CHARITY BIKE RIDE REACHES KINSHASA

Kinshasa, DRC, 19 June 2014 - Randgold Resources chief executive Mark Bristow and his 3boyzonbikes team arrived in Kinshasa today on the latest lap of a 10 000 kilometre four week charity motorbike ride from Abidjan to Cape Town.

The purpose of the ride, the fourth such trip Bristow has undertaken, is to raise money for Nos Vies en Partage, a charitable foundation established by Randgold aimed at supporting humanitarian efforts in Africa with a particular focus on those people who have been left behind by society such as orphans and abused women.

"Riding a motorbike through Africa is very different to flying over it. You get up close to the ordinary people in towns and villages and, as a motorbike provides no insulation against your environment, you can see the need for a helping hand to deprived communities very vividly," Bristow said today.

"This is particularly true for the many orphanages we have visited during the course of our trip and it was incredibly humbling to see firsthand the sacrifices being made for the children under their care and how much they can do with so little," said Bristow.

Among the orphanages that have received a donation so far on this trip from Nos Vies en Partage are The Mercy Foundation in Côte d'Ivoire, which provides support and basic education for children from disadvantaged families, the Côte d'Ivoire Centre Don Orione for handicapped children, Togo's Afric' Mutualité which focuses on HIV positive orphans, Benin's Oronsaye orphanage, Cameroon's La Chaine des Foyers Saint Nicodeme Orphanage and La Maison de L'Esperance, and the Ecole Speciale in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo,

"This support would not have been possible without the great generosity of our sponsors who have collectively contributed more than $1.5 million so far for this trip with more money coming in every day," said Bristow."

Three orphanages and an old age home in Kinshasa will benefit from the charity today, including Orphanage Maman Koko which is home to 435 children suffering from HIV Aids or other disabilities. Further donations will be made in DRC's Province Orientale where Randgold Resources' Kibali gold mine is located. In the Watsa region another three orphanages will receive funds and a substantial contribution will be made towards the construction of an educational and nutritional rehabilitation centre in Isiro. Bristow will be meeting with various cabinet ministers while in Kinshasa before continuing with his team down the west coast to Cape Point where he began the first ride in 2009.

An online journal of the trip can be followed at www.3boyzonbikes.com and full details of the foundation can be found at www.partage-foundation.org.
