Trading update
DDD Group plc (AIM: DDD, 'the Group'), the 3D solutions company, announces that at the AGM later today, the Groupwill report that first quarter revenues are expected to be $975,000, up 111% compared to the same period in 2010 (excluding discontinued operations) and up 45% from the fourth quarter of 2010.
Demand for the Group's TriDef® 2D to 3D conversion products increased significantly in the first quarter of 2011 with over 2.3m units shipped. Shipments by TV chip manufacturers grew 475% over the first quarter of 2010 while PC shipments grew 5% over the comparable period.
Demand for the Group's products in the PC market continues to grow. DDD has signed license agreements to date this year with Intel, Samsung, LG Electronics, Chimei Innolux and two additional un-named OEM PC manufacturers. Several of these will commence product shipments during the first half of 2011.
In the TV market, Samsung expanded its product line in the first quarter of 2011 and began shipping Blu-ray disc players and PC monitors incorporating the Group's 2D to 3D conversion technology under license.
DDD has also implemented the TriDef software on the Texas Instrument's TI OMAP processors for Android smart phones and tablet PCs. In addition to the OMAP processors, the TriDef Mobile Android application is also now integrated with two other mobile processors from un-named chip makers.
As planned, DDD continued to recruit new staff in key areas including PC software development and Android mobile software development. Kevin Stec, an award-winning industry expert in video signal processing, is joining the Group's research and development team later this month as Vice President, Image Technology Research. Kevin has over 30 years' experience in leading-edge video signal processing projects at Dolby Laboratories and Panasonic America, and will work closely with Dr. Julien Flack to develop next generation 3D capture and signal processing products.
DDD has also expanded its patent library adding four further patents awarded in the United States, Japan, China and the Philippines for its 2D to 3D conversion and 3D encoding technologies. This brings the total number of currently issued patents to 51 across 24 countries.
In conjunction with the increasing adoption of the Group's TriDef® 3D solutions in a growing number of 3D consumer products including televisions, personal computers, Blu-ray disc players and mobile phones, DDD has also introduced a new website at DDD.com together with the 'Make●Life●3D' branding.
Results for the first half of 2011 are expected to be published in late September.
