Press Release
8 May 2015
Trading Statement
In advance of its Annual General Meeting today, BBA Aviation plc, the leading global aviation support and aftermarket services provider, is issuing a trading statement for the period from 1 January to 25 April 2015, unless otherwise stated.
Trading
Group trading was in line with our expectations with Group revenue 5% lower than the prior year, reflecting the fall in fuel prices, and up 3% on an organic basis (excluding the impact of exchange rates, fuel prices, acquisitions and disposals).
Revenue in Flight Support grew by 3% on an organic basis. The market recovery in business and general aviation (B&GA) in the US continues with movements up 1% in the first quarter reflecting further good growth against a strong comparator last year. Our other major markets remain challenging with European B&GA movements down 4% and commercial movements down 2% in North America and up 2% in Europe.
Against this background, Signature Flight Support continued to perform strongly, outpacing its key markets, with further incremental contributions from the new locations added in 2014. Signature's ongoing development projects at Mineta San Jose International Airport and London Luton Airport are progressing well. In ASIG, the costs associated with the start-up of operations at London Heathrow's new Terminal 2 are abating, however ASIG's overall performance was impacted by the ongoing challenges at Singapore Changi Airport and the previously announced loss of the ground handling contract at John F. Kennedy International Airport Terminal One in February.
In Aftermarket Services revenue grew by 2% on an organic basis. Despite continued weak market conditions, Engine Repair & Overhaul's (ERO) volumes picked up during the period. However, with the ongoing ERO footprint reorganisation, we don't expect to see the benefit from increased throughput until the second half. The new engine repair facility in Abu Dhabi, in support of the significant rotorcraft authorisations signed last year, is now operational. Legacy Support continues to perform in line with expectations, against a strong prior year comparator, with contributions from the licences signed in 2014. During the period, Legacy Support signed its first product licence with Thales Avionics, further extending Legacy Support's OEM relationships.
Management
In March, Michael Scheeringa (President and CEO, Flight Support) resigned from BBA Aviation to pursue other opportunities. Michael has stepped down from the Executive Committee and ceased to have operational responsibility for Flight Support from 1st May. Responsibility for the division has been transferred to Simon Pryce, Group Chief Executive. Michael will remain within the organisation to ensure a smooth transition until he leaves the Group later in the year. The Board thanks Michael for his efforts and significant contribution during his time at BBA Aviation and wishes him well in the next phase of his career.
Commenting on the trading statement, Simon Pryce, BBA Aviation Group Chief Executive said:
"The Group is performing in line with our expectations. The recovery in our major market continues and it is pleasing to see some recovery in repair and overhaul volumes, which we expect will begin to feed through to overall performance in the second half of the year. Our businesses are well positioned and we remain confident that 2015 will be another year of good growth for BBA Aviation. The Group continues to realise the benefits of the significant growth investments made in recent years, the full impact of which will not be seen until 2016 and 2017, with a continuing good pipeline of value creative opportunities."
Notes:
BBA Aviation plc will announce its interim results for the period to 30 June 2015 on 5 August 2015.
