7.Cause of occurrence:
Acer America Corporation ("AAC") recently identified a security incident affecting the information of certain customers who used our U.S. ecommerce site, which is totally separate from other Acer ecommerce sites (e.g., Europe). As a result, an unauthorized third party was able to gain access to some transaction data, including name, address, credit card number and security code, for certain customers who made purchases on U.S. ecommerce the site. But AAC does not collect Social Security numbers and we have not identified any evidence that password or login credentials were affected.
Upon identifying this issue, AAC took immediate steps to fix the problem and are working with outside cyber security experts to enhance our security. AAC has reported this issue to our credit card payment processor. We also notified law enforcement, and offered our full cooperation. AAC has notified the approximately 34,500 customers whose information may be affected. This U.S. ecommerce site is totally separate from other Acer ecommerce sites, and we do not have any evidence that any of those other sites have been affected by this incident. Thus Acer foresees no immediate material adverse effect on our business operations and finance.
Safeguarding our customers' personal information is important to us. We value the trust our customers place in us, and we regret these circumstances.
