Chase, dick clark productions and Intersport announced today their joint effort to produce the second annual American Giving Awards (AGAs), which will be broadcast Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 8:00pm local time on NBC from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. The AGAs are the first-ever televised celebrity tribute to community heroes. The evening will highlight five charities who will receive grants from Chase.
Produced by dick clark productions and Intersport, the AGAs will grant a total of $2 million to the five featured charitable organizations, which will be voted on by Chase customers and Facebook users from a list of 25 previous Chase Community Giving (CCG) grant recipients. The organization with the most votes will receive a $1 million grant, the first runner-up will be granted $500,000, a second runner-up will receive a $250,000 grant and third and fourth runners up will be given $125,000 grants.
Each of the five winning organizations will represent one of five pre-determined categories recognizing the "building blocks" of our communities:
Educators & Mentors Award: for empowering our communities through education Heroes & Leaders Award: for outstanding community contributions to human rights and social services Champions of Health & Wellness: for improving health and wellbeing in our communities Community Builders Award: for excellence in serving our communities Youth Developers Award: for inspiring and nurturing our youth that will help build stronger communities"Coming off the success of last year's American Giving Awards, we are delighted to once again shine a spotlight on some incredible local charities who are changing lives and making a real impact in their communities every day," said Kimberly Davis, President of the JPMorgan Chase Foundation. "We know viewers will be entertained, but we hope they will also be inspired to get involved."
CCG was introduced in 2009 by Chase as a new way forward for giving. It's a program that lets fans of CCG, and now Chase customers, vote to help determine where Chase donates millions of dollars. Since the program's inception, nearly 3.5 million Facebook users have "liked" Chase Community Giving. In total, millions of people have helped Chase donate over $20 million to over 500 charities in 41 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. Chase Community Giving is part of JPMorgan Chase's annual giving, which in 2011 totaled more than $200 million.
Voting for the American Giving Awards will take place on Facebook and Chase.com. For more information on the program and how to vote, please visit http://www.nbc.com/americangivingawards/index.shtml.
