Telit Wireless Solutions, Inc., the US-based mobile technology armof Telit Communications PLC (AIM:TCM), today announced the newestaddition to their GE product family, the GE863-PRO3 wirelesscommunication module. Equipped with two powerful microprocessors, thisquad-band module is suited for a wide range of applications requiringhigh processing power, such as point-of-sale terminals, fleetmanagement systems and multimode automated meter reading (AMR)applications. The groundbreaking Telit GE863-PRO3 module will beavailable during the fourth quarter 2007. £ The new GE863-PRO3 GSM/GPRS module is the first module in theTelit PRO3 professional dual-processor product line. Due to anintegrated ARM9 processor, software applications can take full controlof the CPU, while the GPRS-based band processor handles time-criticalcommunication tasks. The module can be programmed in both Python andC++ programming language. £ "With the GE863-PRO3, Telit becomes the first wirelesscommunication module supplier to offer a dual core concept withindependent processors for communication operations and customerreal-time applications. This is a crucial advantage over comparablerival products where all applications run on a single CPU," says RogerDewey, President and CEO of Telit Wireless Solutions, Inc. £ With integrated firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) solution, theGE863-PRO3 offers the benefits of remote software updates. Thisfunction enables system integrators and developers to ensure that thefirmware of the product can be upgraded with the latest enhancementsand features. Furthermore, the advantage of FOTA can be made availablefor the customer application software. This allows total remote devicemanagement, thereby improving the functionalities of the applicationdevices while dramatically reducing the cost of the product. £ The powerful ATMEL ARM9 processor enables control of real-timeapplications requiring up to 200 MIPS. With the same form factor asTelit's compact GE863 module, tried-and-tested ball grid array (BGA)mounting technology, and an integrated memory for softwareapplications, the GE863-PRO3 provides significant benefits for thedevelopment and production of complex solutions. £ The GE863-PRO3 also features large amounts of integrated memory(Flash and RAM) and independent energy management for both CPUs,eliminating the need for additional external memory in the applicationdesign. This makes it easier and more cost-effective for Telitcustomers to incorporate the GE863-PRO3 into the design of theirproduct. £ With its external dimensions of just 41 x 31 x 3.6 mm, theGE863-PRO3 is particularly suitable for applications where a compactform is important. As with all other Telit products, the GE863-PRO3 isto be fully certified for use on all US carriers and, given that itshares cellular radio and stack structures with other members of thepopular GE863 product family, customers can also avoid additionalcosts and time spent on complex re-testing procedures benefiting froma faster time to market. £ In addition to over-the-air installation of firmware upgrades, themodule also features the following interfaces: SPI, IIC, SD/MMC andUSB, allowing reliable connectivity with peripheral hardware orsoftware such as a camera, keyboard, display, WiFi, Bluetooth orZigBee. £ About Telit £ Telit is a leading global wireless communications technologycompany.
