Telit Communications (AIM:TCM), a leading international mobiletechnology innovator, today announced that they have partnered withPedagog to provide the world's first network-independent wirelesscamera. The IrisCamera is the first camera that can transmit videorecordings live and in color to mobile telephones. Pedagog will launchthe IrisCamera in 15 countries across Europe, North America, SouthAmerica, Asia, Africa and Australia. £ The IrisCamera can be installed at any location to keep watch onrooms, individual objects or even people. It comes equipped with apassive infra-red and video motion detector. In alarm mode, the cameracontinuously scans the surveillance area. As soon as movement isdetected, the camera records the event automatically and stores it ona server. The user is then notified of the activity by SMS and canview the recording on his or her mobile telephone. Neither an Internetconnection nor a PC is required. Pedagog first usedthe GM862-PCS module from Telit in the prototype of the IrisCamera,and then made the switch to the Trizium version with the unique BallGrid Array (BGA) assembly concept. £ BGA is based on tiny solder balls placed on the underside of amodule, which allows for direct mounting to the application circuitboard without the need for plugs, cables or connectors. The module cannow be assembled using an automated pick-and-place assembly forstandard SMD components. This not only reduces material costs, butalso installation time and assembly costs. The board-to-board BGAmounting is extremely stable and reliable.
