Telit m2m Module Embedded in the World's First Network-Independent Wireless Camera

30th Oct 2006 13:47

Telit Communications (AIM:TCM), a leading international mobiletechnology innovator, today announced that they have partnered withPedagog to provide the world's first network-independent wirelesscamera. The IrisCamera is the first camera that can transmit videorecordings live and in color to mobile telephones. Pedagog will launchthe IrisCamera in 15 countries across Europe, North America, SouthAmerica, Asia, Africa and Australia. £ The IrisCamera can be installed at any location to keep watch onrooms, individual objects or even people. It comes equipped with apassive infra-red and video motion detector. In alarm mode, the cameracontinuously scans the surveillance area. As soon as movement isdetected, the camera records the event automatically and stores it ona server. The user is then notified of the activity by SMS and canview the recording on his or her mobile telephone. Neither an Internetconnection nor a PC is required. A simple 2.5G GPRS mobile telephoneis all that's required. £ "It was of particular importance for us to be able to build on amachine-to-machine (m2m) module that can send data with consistentreliability all over the world, which is exactly what Telit provides,"said Dr. Olinga Ta'eed, CEO of Pedagog. "Telit's unique formfunctionality will also allow us to continually update Iris withTelit's next-generation module without rebuilding our entire product." £ Iris includes a standard GPRS SIM card and a battery that offersten hours of standby or two hours of permanent transmission. Telit'sm2m GSM/GPRS module ensures reliable data transfer. Pedagog first usedthe GM862-PCS module from Telit in the prototype of the IrisCamera, and then made the switch to the Trizium version with the unique BallGrid Array (BGA) assembly concept. £ BGA is based on tiny solder balls placed on the underside of amodule, which allows for direct mounting to the application circuitboard without the need for plugs, cables or connectors. The module cannow be assembled using an automated pick-and-place assembly forstandard SMD components. This not only reduces material costs, butalso installation time and assembly costs. The board-to-board BGAmounting is extremely stable and reliable. Together, the compact shapeand reduced assembly costs are crucial advantages for use incost-sensitive applications, such as those for the consumer market. £ "We applaud Pedagog's leadership and foresight - the introductionof the IrisCamera will be a product launch that we should all bewatching closely," said Roger Dewey, President and CEO of TelitWireless Solutions, Inc. £ The GE863-QUAD, which Pedagog will use for Iris in the future, isalso quad-band enabled. Since it can be used in the frequency rangesfrom 824 MHz to 1900 MHz, it can be used anywhere in the world and isthus suitable for the American market. The module, which measures just41.1 x 31.4 x 3.6 mm and weighs just 9 grams, is also extremelysturdy: it can withstand extreme temperatures from -30 degrees C to+80 degrees C. £ There are at least ten times more machines, equipment, vehiclesand robots than there are humans in the world, creating a criticalneed to transfer information efficiently between machines or frommachines to humans. The relatively new m2m industry delivers increasedefficiency, time savings, improved customer orientation and greaterflexibility. £ About Pedagog £ The company, founded in 1996, develops multimedia solutions forlow bandwidths.
