23rd Oct 2007 18:19

Telit Wireless Solutions, Inc., the US-based mobile technology armof Telit Communications PLC (AIM:TCM), today announced its GE864-PYmodule has been awarded PTCRB (PCS Type Certification Review Board)certification, the regulatory requirement needed to offer GSM cellularcommunications products in the North American market. The GE864-PY isTelit's seventh PTCRB certified module. With this certification, theworld's most compact quad-band GSM/GPRS module with remote programmingfeatures has cleared a major regulatory hurdle for use in NorthAmerica's emerging enterprise machine communications market. £ "With seven certified Telit modules on the market, we give ourcustomers more flexibility to determine the ideal form-factor fortheir specific application," said Roger Dewey, President and CEO ofTelit Wireless Solutions, Inc. "Technologies and applications thatenable the wireless exchange of information between machines areconsistently on the rise, and Telit is primed to take a role at theforefront of this movement." £ Telit Wireless Solutions, Inc. develops, produces and marketsGSM/GPRS modules and solutions that provide the basis for machines, equipment or vehicles to interface with each other via mobilecommunications networks. The GE864-PY makes it possible to runcustomer's applications inside the module, making it the world'ssmallest complete platform for cellular communications. Additionally, the dimensions of just 30 x 30 x 2.8 mm and a weight of seven gramsmake it ideal for applications where module size is a critical issue, such as wearable devices and consumer-oriented location-basedservices, among others. £ The GE864-PY also features a ball grid array installation (BGA), aconcept Telit introduced on GSM / GPRS modules. BGA is based on tinysolder balls placed on the underside of a module which allow fordirect mounting to the application circuit board, without the need forplugs, cables or connectors. Together, the compact shape and easyinstallation reduce costs and are crucial advantages for use inapplications for the consumer market. Telit's GE864 product family isthe market's only module viable for very large scale production inthis category. £ The PTCRB seal of approval from the CTIA industry associationensures products satisfy the requirements of the American variants ofthe GSM / GPRS network standard. To receive certification, devicesmust exhibit US-specific features such as Adaptive Multi Rate (MR) and850 /1900 MHz frequency bands. Testing is carried out by an accreditedtesting lab. £ Telit's modules, because they are quad-band devices, can be usedall over the world where GSM / GPRS coverage is available. Thequad-band capability of the GE864-PY with its virtually globalregulatory compliance means that applications that have been developedfor special vertical segments in the European market can be marketedto these verticals worldwide. £ About Telit Communications £ Telit is a rising global wireless technology company.
