Sure launches Upp™ fuel cell technology from Intelligent Energy

Sure mobile users to now benefit from instant energy anytime, anywhere

Telecommunications services supplier Sure, part of the Batelco Group, has announced that it is partnering with Intelligent Energy, the international power technology company, to offer the Upp personal energy device in its retail stores.

"We have all experienced the frustration of a dead or dying phone so we are really looking forward to introducing our customers to Upp, which is an amazing alternative power source for when you need instant energy, anytime, anywhere off-grid to charge your mobile device," said Mike Fawkner Corbett, Sure's Head of Mobile.

Flight friendly*, Upp is a perfect portable travel companion, which enables mobile users to power USB-compatible portable electronic devices with a single Upp cartridge typically delivering up to one week of energy for smartphones**.

Designed to meet the growing demand for portable power driven by an ever-increasing need to power "on-the-go" electronic devices, Upp powers smartphones, wearable technology such as fitness bands, portable speakers, e-readers, portable gaming devices and digital cameras using just hydrogen and air.

Upp comes with its own mobile companion app, which shows users how much energy they have left in their cartridge, the nearest cartridge exchange locations, personal usage statistics, FAQs and customer support. It can be downloaded from the Apple App Store (iOS 5 and higher) or from Google Play™ for Android™ devices (Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and higher).

The Upp starter pack (consisting of fuel cell and cartridge) is available now in Sure stores across the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man for £149.95. Replacement Upp cartridges are £9.95 each, when exchanging an empty cartridge. The Upp fuel cell takes hydrogen provided by the Upp cartridge and combines it with air to produce clean electricity. Users simply need to connect the fuel cell to an Upp cartridge to achieve instant energy for their mobile devices.

* Fuel cell approved for carriage in aircraft cabin only. Carriage of more than two spare cartridges is prohibited. In the US and on US bound flights, spare cartridges cannot be put into checked baggage. Carriage on aircraft is subject to local safety and security procedures.
