Sweett Group supports changes to health service provision in North London

Sweett Group is proud to be involved in one of the most significant developments in the provision of healthcare to take place across the three North London Boroughs of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey in recent years.

The Barnet Enfield & Haringey (BEH) Clinical Strategy, which was launched in 2007, involves reorganising and reconfiguring the provision of women's, children's and emergency medical services across the Barnet & Chase Farm and North Middlesex University NHS Trusts. Working with both Trusts, Sweett Group has been providing a range of project management, health planning, cost consulting and programming services, as the project has moved towards business case approval by NHS London and the Department of Health, respectively.

As part of the Clinical Strategy over £115m of investments will be made across the two Trusts during a two-year period, concentrating the provision of specialist care services. There will be an expansion of obstetrics and emergency care at Barnet and North Middlesex University Hospitals whilst Chase Farm Hospital will concentrate on outpatient, elective care and diagnostics.

The refurbishment and new-build works being undertaken across the hospitals, in particular at Barnet, are being implemented in a live hospital environment. The Group's health planning consultants are working in close collaboration with contractors and medical professionals to ensure controls are in place to minimise disruption.

Andrew Wildgust, Operations Director, Sweett Group, said:

"The wide scope of the BEH Clinical Strategy, which involves coordinating separate programmes of works across three hospitals in two separate NHS Trusts, has brought significant challenges. Overcoming these and achieving business case approval is a significant milestone for all of the stakeholders in the area, not least local residents."

The works to expand capacity at Barnet Hospital are being carried out under a Deed of Variation to the PFI agreement and the works at Chase Farm Hospital and North Middlesex University Hospital are being delivered under the ProCure21+ framework.

Sweett Group is a recognised leader in the UK health sector, with over 20 current individual NHS Trust framework appointments and experience of working with 60% of Trusts in London and the Southeast of England. The Group also provides consultancy services as part of regional frameworks including the NHS Shared Business Services Framework, the NHS Designed for Life 2 and 3 frameworks in Wales and Procure21+.
