8th May 2007 07:01

Caldwell Investments PLC08 May 2007 Caldwell Investments plc ("Caldwell" or "the Company")Successful Trial Plantation The Board of Caldwell is pleased to update shareholders on the progress of itsbiodiesel feedstock project based in Brazil, as announced on 2 February 2007. The project has taken a further tangible step forward with the successfulgermination from mechanically planted seed of over 1,000 Jatropha tree saplingsat Caldwell's first trial plantation in Northern Brazil. The purpose of the trial was to confirm that in the fertile conditions availablein Brazil, the Company is able to cultivate Jatropha trees directly frommechanically planted seed without the need to invest in nursery facilities orbuy in more expensive saplings. The Directors believe this successful trial confirms an important element of theCompany's project to cultivate Jatropha plantations in Brazil in order toprovide biodiesel feedstock for the European market. The Board of Caldwellemphasises that this project is still at a very early stage, requires furtherdue diligence and is subject to a number of major uncertainties, includingfunding, recruitment of local management, access to suitable land and successfulcultivation of a large scale plantation End.
