Submarine Rescue Vehicle for Republic of Korea Navy
James Fisher and Sons plc (James Fisher or FSJ.L), through James Fisher Defence (JFD), announces today that it has named the Republic of Korea Navy's (ROKN) new rescue submersible "ROKS DSRV II".
ROKS DSRV II has been custom built, in under two years, around JFD's Deep Search and Rescue (DSAR) platform which draws on JFD's unrivalled experience in submarine rescue operations and participation in rescue exercises worldwide. In parallel with the construction, JFD has delivered an extensive training programme for the ROKN's maintainers and operators and completed a major upgrade on the ROKN's existing rescue submersible LR5K. The contract, worth £10m over a period of 3 years, was awarded to JFD in December 2006.
The submersible, one of two currently in build at JFD's Renfrew premises, has been designed and built to a very tight timescale and will be delivered on time in accordance with the original project schedule. After completion of sea trials in November, ROKS DSRV II will be delivered to Jin Hae in South Korea where she will be installed onboard the Chung-Hae-Jin and will complete its commissioning work later this year.
