Product testing and preliminary user evaluationsin a variety of procedures have been very positive. Surgical site infections occur in 2-5% of all surgical procedures. They canlead to serious complications and increased morbidity to the patient andsignificant incremental costs to health care providers. It is generally acceptedthat contamination by the patient's endogenous skin flora is a key factor in thedevelopment of surgical site infection and despite standard preventative steps,SSIs remain an issue of concern. AMS has developed an innovative film-forming solution that bonds to the skinsealing off the spaces where bacteria can grow. Based upon patentedcyanoacrylate technology, Kimberly-Clark* InteguSeal* immobilises endogenouspathogens thereby reducing the risk of skin flora contamination. A novel applicator has been developed that allows InteguSeal* Microbial Sealantto be effectively applied even on irregular and contoured areas of the body,such as shoulders and knees, which are generally difficult to drape. Easy toapply and fast-drying, Kimberly-Clark* InteguSeal* can be used in conjunctionwith a variety of preparatory treatments and surgical products such aselectrocautery, sutures, staples and wound adhesives. Kimberly-Clark* InteguSeal* Microbial Sealant has been CE marked for sale in the EU, cleared for sale inother geographies and is currently under review for market clearance in theUnited States.
