Tribal Group PLC18 April 2005 Tribal Group plc18 April 2005 TRIBAL GROUP ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC AGREEMENT WITH NEW YORK'S HOSPITAL FOR SPECIAL SURGERY Tribal Group plc ("Tribal") and the Hospital for Special Surgery ("HSS"), NewYork's leading orthopaedic hospital, today announce the signing of a strategicagreement to underline their commitment to the delivery of healthcare in the UK. The alliance will see HSS supporting Tribal Group's wholly owned subsidiary,Mercury Health, in the development of its treatment centre business and inbidding for the second wave of NHS contracts. The agreement includes the provision by HSS of advisory services and bestpractice, as well as the transfer of knowledge in the area of orthopaedics. Thistransfer of knowledge will be supported by an exchange programme between MercuryHealth staff and HSS staff. The key focal areas of the agreement are patient education, advice on carepathways, infection control and physiotherapy. HSS will also provide access tooperating processes and protocols, as well as clinical operating data. HSS Chief Executive Officer and President, John Reynolds, who has previouslyoverseen the knowledge transfer of HSS's best practices in patient care andtreatment protocols for hip and knee replacements to a NHS orthopaedic centre inLondon, will lead the HSS team working with and advising Mercury Health. The strategic agreement follows a £214 million contract win by Mercury Health inDecember 2004 to design, set up and manage a regional network of five treatmentcentres in the South of England. These new treatment centres will perform arange of in-patient and daycase elective surgery and diagnostic procedures fornon-acute conditions.
