Sierra Rutile update on the Ebola virus
London, UK, 15 September 2014: Further to the announcement of 8 September 2014, Sierra Rutile Limited (AIM: SRX) ("Sierra Rutile") has been in close consultation with the Government of Sierra Leone regarding the implementation of the recently announced nationwide travel restrictions to contain the Ebola outbreak, and provides the following update:
· The restriction period has been reduced to three-days instead of the previously announced four-days, from Friday, 19 September to Sunday, 21 September 2014.
· Sierra Rutile has confirmed with the Government that the restriction period will not be extended beyond the three-days.
· Operations are expected to be restricted during the three-day period. However, essential services such as the power plant and health clinic will continue to operate as normal. This will ensure that the safety and well-being of employees are maintained and will enable Sierra Rutile to recommence full operations immediately following the three-day period.
· Sierra Rutile will seek to optimise its operations and workforce during the time leading up to and after the restriction period to minimise, as best as possible, the overall impact on the business.
· Export of products to customers will not be affected.
· Sierra Rutile will continue to support the Government's Ebola efforts during the restriction period by providing access to its medical staff to assist the authorities with their monitoring activities.
John Sisay, CEO of Sierra Rutile said:
"Sierra Rutile will continue its close consultation with the Government and local authorities and provide them with all possible assistance and support in their determined efforts to combat Ebola. We continue to have in place precautionary measures to minimise the risks posed to our employees, contractors and visitors, as detailed in our previous announcement on 5 August 2014. While there continues to be no reported or suspected cases of Ebola at Sierra Rutile's operations, we remain vigilant in monitoring the situation closely and ensuring that our employees and the local communities have the necessary support to identify any Ebola cases early."
