Spirent Communications (NYSE:SPM) (LSE:SPT), a global provider ofperformance analysis and service management solutions, today announcedmarket-leading enhancements to its location-based services (LBS) testplatform. The Spirent UMTS Location Test System (ULTS) is the onlycommercially available system that enables the full range of AssistedGPS (A-GPS) testing needs: technology and chipset development, designverification of GSM and UMTS devices, and UMTS terminal certification. £ The Spirent ULTS enables GCF certification of LBS-capable UMTSmobile devices. Five out of six test cases from the 3GPP's TS 34.171A-GPS terminal conformance specification have been validated by theGlobal Certification Forum (GCF) on the Spirent ULTS. The ULTS is thefirst and only platform to exceed the 80% test case validationthreshold required to trigger A-GPS terminal certification. £ The Spirent ULTS platform has also expanded to meet the needs ofA-GPS chipset and module developers and evaluators. Based on Spirent'sproven platform, the new ULTS A-GPS Development System (ULTS-ADS) isdesigned specifically for optimizing the performance of an A-GPSchipset or module via a combination of industry-standard test casesand flexible performance test capability. £ "Spirent's focus on both standards-based certification testing andlab-based performance test solutions demonstrates our dedication toenabling the deployment of location-based services," commented RichardCatmur, business development manager at Spirent's Wireless &Positioning Division.
