Spirent Communications plc (LSE:SPT) today announced a major newversion of its SR5500 Wireless Channel Emulator, used to test wirelessreceivers. Successful deployment of Mobile WiMAX and othernext-generation wireless networks depends on advanced techniques suchas Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) and beamforming. The industryexpects that these methods will deliver significant gains inefficiency and data rates. Testing receivers that use these techniquesis more critical and complex than ever, and requires a highly accurateemulated radio channel. The new SR5500 addresses these challenges, helping to limit deployment problems and associated revenue impact. £ "To effectively test MIMO and beamforming techniques, the industryrequires a very powerful wireless channel emulation engine," said RobVanBrunt, vice president at Spirent Communications' wireless division."But not all testing requires all this power. The SR5500's buildingblock architecture lets our customers adapt to changing testing needs. For example, a 4 x 2 MIMO system can also serve as multiple 2 x 2 MIMOsystems or as multiple bi-directional test systems." £ "This flexibility offers the most cost-effective approach tomeeting test requirements across wireless technologies withoutsacrificing performance or ease of use," said VanBrunt. "Using thisapproach, building blocks can be added to permit up to 8 RF I/O portscarrying 16 digital channels, all controlled by a single userinterface." £ Spirent's SR5500 Wireless Channel Emulator is the world's leadingemulator of the wireless air interface, re-creating RF fading andnoise effects for effective testing of wireless receivers. Based ondecades' worth of wireless experience, the Spirent SR5500 provides theindustry's cleanest test channel and most accurate fading. The SpirentSR5500's advanced fading engine ensures accurate testing ofsophisticated technologies like HSPA, EV-DO, E-UTRA (LTE), and WiMAX. £ About Spirent Communications plc £ Spirent Communications (www.spirentcom.com) is a global providerof integrated performance analysis and service assurance systems thatenable the development and deployment of next-generation networkingtechnology such as Internet telephony, broadband services, 3Gwireless, global navigation satellite systems, and network securityequipment.
