Spirent Communications (NYSE:SPM) (LSE:SPT), the market leader insatellite navigation test equipment, announces the availability of itsGSS7900 GPS/Galileo Simulation System. This system allows the testingof advanced multi-system GNSS receivers by supporting the free-to-usesignals from both GPS and Galileo systems. The GSS7900 simulates theRF environment to characterise, optimise and validate GNSS receiversunder accurate, controlled and repeatable conditions in thelaboratory. £ "We pride ourselves on our signal fidelity and the comprehensivecapabilities of our test systems," said Peter Boulton, technologydirector at Spirent's Wireless and Positioning division. "Spirent'sinnovative approach to correctly modelling the wideband ionosphericdispersion across the Galileo E5 frequencies is one example of this. Our Galileo simulators are currently undergoing formal verificationwith our official Galileo programme customers." £ This new dual-constellation simulator is derived from Spirent's"industry standard" GSS7700 GPS simulator and the GSS7800 Galileosimulator that Spirent developed in 2006 to support the test needs ofthe Galileo Ground Mission Segment and Test User Segment programmes. These test systems, including the new GSS7900, benefit from Spirent'sflexible and feature-rich SimGEN for Windows(R) software suite. SimGENenables advanced flexibility and control over simulated parameters andis designed to facilitate a wide variety of test configurations andresults analysis. £ "Spirent is responding to our customers' desire to performcombined GPS/Galileo receiver development work," commented JohnPottle, marketing director at Spirent. "The release of the OpenService Galileo signal-in-space interface-control-document (SIS ICD)has stimulated interest in the additional capabilities that Galileowill enable. Currently, our Galileo system uses public domaininformation about Galileo only, as there are restrictions on the useof the Galileo ranging codes and navigation data. When theserestrictions are lifted, Spirent will upgrade its GSS7900 customers tofull ICD compliance via a simple field upgrade." £ About Spirent Communications £ Spirent Communications (www.spirentcom.com) is a global providerof integrated performance analysis and service assurance systems thatenable the development and deployment of next-generation networkingtechnology such as Internet telephony, broadband services, 3Gwireless, global navigation satellite systems, and network securityequipment.
