As service providers aggressively deploy Ethernet networks tosupport IPTV and business class Ethernet services, they continue todrive the industry to harden Ethernet for metro and wide areanetworks. In response Spirent Communications plc (LSE:SPT), a globalprovider of performance analysis and service management solutions, hasreleased its latest Spirent TestCenter configuration for CarrierEthernet Network Equipment Manufacturers and services providers.Spirent's solution was recently deployed at the European AdvancedNetworking Test Center's (EANTC) Carrier Ethernet World Congress(CEWC) 2007 Interoperability Showcase demonstrating interoperabilityof new Carrier Ethernet technologies such as Provider BackboneTransport (PBT) and 802.1ag Connectivity Fault Management (CFM). £ Spirent TestCenter emulated PBT trunk endpoints to simulate andanalyze 802.1ah encapsulated client traffic passing through multiplePBT devices. A key feature of PBT is the use of CFM Continuity CheckMessages for trunk establishment and failover detection. Spirent alsodemonstrated interoperability in advanced CFM tests that includedEthernet Loopback and Link Trace testing functions, marking the firsttime these capabilities were witnessed in a public interoperabilityevent. Spirent TestCenter's CFM support includes stateful emulation ofover a thousand switch/routers per port to allow test engineers toeasily scale their CFM tests in the lab without buying additionalnetwork equipment. Comprehensive message statistics are maintained atthe port, Maintenance Association and individual node level, enablingquick verification of proper CFM behavior with detailed statistics asneeded for problem identification. £ "Spirent continues a legacy of developing testing solutions thatadvance the deployment of advanced Ethernet applications," saidCarsten Rossenhoevel of the EANTC. "EANTC is continually validatingnew technologies, and Spirent TestCenter was a key contributor to thesuccess of the CEWC interoperability event." £ "Spirent TestCenter's combination of Carrier Ethernet performanceand conformance test capability for the industry's latest needs givestest engineers a complete, integrated solution for bringing theirCarrier Ethernet products and services to market more costeffectively," says Rob Piconi chief operating officer at SpirentCommunications. "The EANTC CEWC Interoperability event is the perfectproving ground to test and validate multi-vendor interoperability ofthese technologies." £ About Spirent Communications plc £ Spirent Communications (www.spirentcom.com) is a global providerof integrated performance analysis and service assurance systems thatenable the development and deployment of next-generation networkingtechnology such as Internet telephony, broadband services, 3Gwireless, global navigation satellite systems, and network securityequipment.
