The United States Air Force Aeronautical SystemsCenter has awarded Smiths Aerospace a contract for a ConceptRefinement Study for the KC-10 Aircraft Modernization (AMP) worth $1.3million. The KC-10 AMP program calls for upgrading the fleet'savionics to meet Communications, Navigation, Surveillance/Air TrafficManagement (CNS/ATM) requirements and will also include other airframerelated upgrades.£ Smiths' experience as an avionics and aerial refueling leader andintegrator will provide a substantial operations and technologycornerstone for the Air Force KC-10 study and subsequent requirementsdefinition. Smiths supplies similar technologies for the C-130Avionics Modernization Program and the Boeing KC-767.£ Results of the study will provide industry's perspective onpotential acquisition approaches, strategies and diverse technicaloptions for execution of the program.
