Sierra Leone update

14th Oct 2005 07:00

Cluff Gold PLC14 October 2005 14 October 2005 AIM: CLF CLUFF GOLD PLC Completion of Drill Programme at Baomahun Gold Prospect, Sierra Leone Cluff Gold Plc ("Cluff Gold" or "the Company") today announces the completion ofits first drilling programme at the Baomahun Gold Prospect ("Baomahun") inSierra Leone. Highlights: • 27 drillholes were completed for a total of 4600m over less than a quarter strike extent of the 3.4 kilometre gold anomaly corridor • Significant high gold values in drill hole intersections • Assay results confirm mineralisation remains open in all directions from the Central and Western Zones • Completion of a ground geophysical survey has identified anomalies interpreted to be buried sulphide mineralisation, coincident with other gold findings to date • Resource update currently being undertaken by SRK Consultants The drilling programme concentrated on three sub-parallel structures, theEastern, Central and Western Zones, which have been explored and trial mined inthe past. The combined strike extent of these structures covered by the recentdrilling constitutes less than 25% of the 3.4km known gold anomaly on theprospect. The programme completed 27 inclined holes for a total of 4600 metres. The holeswere programmed to confirm previous exploration drilling results and determineadditional possible strike extensions to known mineralisation. Ten, seven andten holes were completed on the Eastern, Central and Western Zones respectively. Assay results from the Eastern Zone were published on 22 June 2005. The company has received assay results from the other two zones and below is atable of some of the significant intersections. TheCompany has currently expended over US$1m on the prospective Baomahun projectand will make a further announcement soon, upon the completion of the resourceupdate which is currently being undertaken by SRK Consultants. In addition, the Company has completed a ground geophysical survey of 12 linekilometres over a strike length of 2.4 kilometres using three different methods:SP (SELF Potential), VLF (Very Low Frequency) and magnetics. The identifiedanomalies, interpreted to be buried sulphide mineralisation, are coincident withboth the gold in soil anomalies and the high gold values in drill holeintersections. Geological core logging has shown that high gold mineralisationis associated with sulphide mineralisation, mostly pyrrhotite. Douglas Chikohora, Technical Director of Cluff Gold plc, comments, '"We arepleased with the assay results which have served to confirm the historical drilldata and extended strike and down dip extensions of the mineralised structureson the prospect. In particular, holes 25 and 27 demonstrate that the Centraland Western Zones are both wider and higher grade further to the north and atdepth. The results from the ground geophysics programme will be used togenerate additional drill targets along strike of the Eastern, Central andWestern Zones in the previously established 3.4 kilometre gold anomaly corridor. We believe, from recent airborne geophysical survey work, that the geology inthis corridor is similar to the areas recently tested by the drilling and areindicative of a large mineralised system.'' About Baomahun: Baomahun is located about 180 km east of the capital, Freetown, in the SouthernProvince of the country and the geological setting is similar to the LakeVictoria goldfields in Tanzania. Cluff has a right to earn a 60% interest inBaomahun by funding the project to the completion of a bankable feasibilitystudy or to a maximum of US$5 million. This right is to be acquired fromWinston Mines which owns the two exploration licences relating to Baomahun, covering an area of approximately 137 km(2).
