BHP Billiton PLC07 March 2006 7 March 2006Number 05/06 SENIOR MANAGEMENT APPOINTMENTS AT BHP BILLITON Today BHP Billiton announced several management appointments designed to broadenthe experience of a number of its senior executives. This is a continuation ofthe talent development program announced in December 2005. Bob Kirkby, currently President of Carbon Steel Materials has announced he plansto retire from BHP Billiton on 31 December 2006. Until his retirement, Bob willserve as Executive President. He will retain responsibility for our Energy Coalbusiness and continue to have oversight of the corporate functions of GroupSupply and Project Development Services as well as responsibility for ourcountry offices in Brazil, India and Mongolia. Bob will continue as a member ofthe Office of the Chief Executive ("OCE") and Chairman of the ExecutiveCommittee until his retirement. Chris Lynch, currently Chief Financial Officer, will be appointed GroupPresident of Carbon Steel Materials which includes our Iron Ore, MetallurgicalCoal and Manganese businesses. Chris will continue as an Executive Director andas a member of the OCE. Chris' experience with our key processes for projectapproval, performance management and financial oversight, as well as hisprevious operating experience, will fit well with the requirements of thiscritical part of BHP Billiton. Alex Vanselow, currently President Aluminium will replace Chris as ChiefFinancial Officer and will join the OCE. Alex has an extensive knowledge of BHPBilliton and its businesses. Alex's familiarity with the company and itsfinancial process combined with his operating experience provides an outstandingopportunity to further align the corporate objectives with the activities of theCSGs. Alex will be based in Melbourne. Graeme Hunt, currently President Iron Ore will replace Alex as PresidentAluminium. Graeme's success in developing and managing the delivery of oursignificant growth pipeline within our iron ore business provides an excellentbackground for his new role. Graeme will be based in London. Commenting on Bob Kirkby's retirement Chip Goodyear, Chief Executive Officer,said: "Bob has had a long and distinguished career at BHP Billiton. He has hadleadership roles across many of our businesses and his experience has beenintegral to our success. During 2006, Bob will assist in the on-goingtransformation of Energy Coal, continue to develop several of our functions andregional offices, and will ensure the smooth transition of his responsibilitiesin Carbon Steel Materials."
