Scottish Life Halves IT Operating Costs by Modernizing Critical Applications

Micro Focus(R) (LSE.MCRO.L), a leading provider of enterpriseapplication modernization software, today announced that ScottishLife, part of the Royal London Group, has halved its IT operatingcosts while deploying Micro Focus's application modernizationtechnology. Micro Focus' products were an integral part of asuccessful project to move its core legacy applications from aproprietary Unisys Clearpath mainframe to a more open hardware andsoftware environment, yielding a complete IT refresh. £ In addition to modernizing its application infrastructure,Scottish Life has dramatically improved the speed of its applicationsand noticeably enhanced its customer service and businessresponsiveness. £ The project was undertaken in partnership with migrationspecialist MSS International, a Micro Focus Migration andTransformation Consortium (MTC) member, and was completed within 18months, on time, within budget. The migrated systems have runsuccessfully from day one, greatly improving the quality of servicecompared to when the applications ran on the mainframe. £ Scottish Life instigated the migration and infrastructuremodernization initiative when the previous mainframe environment beganto struggle to handle an increasing number of life and pensionbusiness transactions, while delivering the consistently high levelsof service Scottish Life's internal and external customers required. £ "The combination of Micro Focus', Oracle's and HP's products withMSS' automated translation technology ensured the project ranincredibly efficiently," said Ian Chapple, chief information officer,Royal London Group.
