RNS Reach: SCISYS HELPS SAVE THE UK'S SOUNDS
The British Library has commissioned SCISYS to deliver a national Digital Radio Archive Management solution that will capture and preserve a representative part of the UK's radio output. This archive is a key part of the British Library's programme to preserve the nation's audio heritage, 'Save our Sounds'.
Working with the radio industry and other stakeholders, the pilot project's main objectives are to provide a preservation solution for selected future output of up to 50 UK radio stations, as well as integration into the British Library infrastructure.
Oliver Giese, Head of Business Segment UK & IRL of the Media & Broadcast division for SCISYS, commented:
"We are very pleased that the British Library has awarded SCISYS this contract. It is an honour for us to be selected by this renowned organisation as the supplier of a solution to capture and preserve the UK's radio output as part of its national audio heritage."
The Digital Radio Archive will consist of modules from the dira! product portfolio for semi-automatic scheduling, capturing, processing and archiving of the UK's radio output as recognisable programme recordings, accompanied by enriched metadata. Due to the high scalability of the dira! platform, this solution can scale-up to capture and archive more of the UK's vibrant radio output for long-term preservation and research.
Klaus Heidrich, CEO of SCISYS, said:
"I am pleased to see that SCISYS' premium dira! products will help generate value outside the broadcast arena. Having been selected by such a prominent customer as the British Library, credit must be given to our Media & Broadcast team for winning this valuable archiving project."
