Appian Technology PLC15 January 2008 Appian Technology plc / Ticker: APN / Market: AIM / Sector: Technology 15th January 2008 Appian Technology plc ('Appian' or 'the Company') Wins Contracts Worth £410,000 with Major UK Police Forces Appian Technology plc, the AIM listed provider of Automatic Number PlateRecognition systems ('ANPR') and traffic management products and solutions, haswon two contracts with major UK police forces in the south and north of Englandworth a total £410,000. The first is a £260,000 order to install Appian's ANPR technology at a number ofstrategic fixed sites in the south of England. This is Appian's third majorcontract from this customer. The technology will be used for crime reduction andcounter terrorism initiatives. The ANPR system will comprise of Appian's CobraANPR cameras, connected to roadside computers running Talon ANPR recognitionsoftware. Integral to the system will be a sophisticated wireless system totransmit all data back to a central monitoring point. The contract involves thedesign, supply, installation and ongoing maintenance of the system. A total of22 lanes of traffic will be monitored, with real time checking of number platesagainst police databases. The second is a £150,000 order for a fixed site ANPR system for a major citypolice force in the north of England. Appian's Talon ANPR system is to be usedto protect critical civil infrastructure. The system will be capable ofprocessing in excess of one million vehicle plates per day, providing vitalintelligence to various agencies. Appian already supplies mobile ANPR equipmentto this customer, having equipped 30 of its police cars with ANPR technologyover the last two years.
