Troubled supermarket group J Sainsbury has appointed Carpetright’s Darren Shapland as its new financial officer with a £400k basic salary. The decision comes just in time as Sainsbury’s current financial officer Roger Matthews is due to step down in May, though the supermarket group did not give a start date for Shapland. His current employer did state today though that he would not leave until at least the end of June, when Carpetright announces its results, leaving J Sainsbury without finance director for at least a month. Shapland has been group finance director at Carpetright since 2002 and has “a strong track record in retail brands†having previously held the same position at Superdrug. Justin King, chief executive said, “I'm delighted that Darren will be joining Sainsbury's. He has excellent experience in the retail sector and has undertaken a number of hands-on and broad financial roles.†Darren Shapland said, "I believe the Sainsbury's brand has great potential and look forward to being able to play a key role in the company's future plans."Related Shares:
