Rukwa - Results from first Drill Hole

Results from first Drill Hole, Rukwa Coal Project, Tanzania

Edenville Energy plc (AIM:EDL), the coal focused African energy exploration and development company, today announces the results of the first drill hole at its Rukwa Coalfield project in South Western Tanzania.

Drilling started in late July at the Mkomolo Basin of the Rukwa coalfield. To date 15 drill holes have been completed with coal identified in all but one drill hole at the southern end of the basin. Drilling has identified coal bearing strata over a lateral strike distance of 4,500m and to a depth in excess of 90m and remains open ended both along strike to the north and at depth down dip. Drilling will continue to be undertaken on a grid pattern with north-south line spacing at 500m intervals. Once the Mkomolo Basin drilling is completed the drilling rig will move south to the Namwele Basin.

The first drill hole, MK11-01, which is located towards the southern end of the Mkomolo Basin, was drilled to a depth of 42m and intersected a 3.8m section of coal bearing strata between 32.34m and 36.15m. Detailed float and sink analysis has been undertaken by the Inspectorate Laboratory in South Africa, which indicates the amount (%yield) and quality of coal that could be obtained from the deposit by coal processing. Extracts from the results are summarised below.

The results confirm the presence of approximately 2.3m of principal coal bearing strata in this drill hole that will be subject to detailed assessment regarding commercial usage. The geological results from boreholes drilled to date indicate that the coal bearing strata increase in thickness to towards the north of the Mkomolo Basin.

Dr. R. Lowman, of the Wardell-Armstong Coal Division, completed a site visit in July and has implemented a series of QA/QC procedures for this first phase diamond drilling programme. It is expected that a further visit will be made by Wardell-Armstrong in September.

Commenting today Simon Rollason, Chairman of Edenville, said; "Our strategy at Edenville is to build low capex producing energy projects for domestic African supply. The results from this first hole are very encouraging and indicate good quality coal is present at Mkomolo. Of further significance is the continued intersection of coal bearing strata in the newly discovered extensions to the north of the known areas of coal outcrop. The geological information from the holes completed to date suggest that potential for coal mineralisation exists over an extensive area at Mkomolo and that, when combined with the future drilling planned at the near-by Namwele deposit and possibly at the Muze deposit, bears out the faith we have in the project. There is further potential for a second drill programme targeting additional tonnages once results from the current drilling have been interpreted and the geological model revised.
