17th Jul 2006 07:00

Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited17 July 2006 17th July 2006 CERAMIC FUEL CELLS LIMITED CERAMIC FUEL CELLS ACHIEVES KEY FURTHER EUROPEAN SAFETY APPROVAL Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited (CFCL), a world leading manufacturer of solid oxidefuel cells and provider of enabling technology for micro-combined head and power(m-CHP) units, has been awarded European "CE" safety approval for NetGen(TM),its fully integrated pre-commercial m-CHP system. The conferral of the CEmarking ("Conformite Europeene") approval will ensure that the units can bedeployed in Europe. The tests of the NetGen(TM) unit were conducted by anindependent company - The Netherlands-based Kiwa Gastec Certification, Europe'smarket leader for testing and certification of gas related products. This follows the first "CE" approval awarded to CFCL in 2005 for its CombinedHeat and Power 2 ("CHP2") field trial unit. The NetGen(TM) system was first launched at the Grove Fuel Cell Symposium inLondon in October 2005 and is CFCL's next generation of unit after CHP2,providing a number of benefits over its predecessor including tighterintegration, fewer components and a marked reduction in size and system cost.CFCL recently announced that it had hit a major milestone by signing a contractwith EWE, the fifth-largest German multi-service energy company to supply tenNetGen(TM) units for field trials and product development as part of acollaborative project to develop commercial-ready m-CHP products for theEuropean market. Brendan Dow, Chief Executive Officer, commented: "The 'CE' approval for the NetGen(TM) unit is significant as it overcomes a keyregulatory hurdle and proves that CFCL can meet the stringent safety conditionsrequired to sell CHP products throughout Europe. Meeting these requirements isan important step that shows we're moving out of the lab and delivering realproducts into the market. Following the contract with EWE, we will be looking atfurther opportunities with other European utilities for deploying ourpre-commercial units in product development trials."
