Anglo American PLC05 October 2006 Joint News Release 5 October 2006 Anglo American and Severstal announce alliance Anglo American and Severstal are pleased to announce an agreement, signed today,to establish an alliance to jointly explore deposits of nickel, copper and zincin Russia, initially focusing on the Republic of Karelia and the MurmanskOblast, with the ultimate intention of jointly developing such deposits in theseregions and elsewhere in Russia. Commenting on the alliance, Simon Thompson, a director of Anglo American andchairman of the Exploration Division, said: "We are delighted to establish thisexploration joint venture with Severstal and look forward to working with themto develop new base metal projects in Russia".
