Allied Irish Banks PLC23 March 2005 For Immediate Release - 23 March 2005 Re-Issue Of Treasury Shares Announcement pursuant to Paragraph 15.22 of the Listing Rules Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. ("AIB") gives notice, under Paragraph 15.22 of theListing Rules, that it has re-issued 3,029,750 Treasury Shares, in aggregate, toparticipants in the Bank's Employee Share Option Scheme, as follows: • Dates Issued: From 12 November 2004 to 21 March 2005 • Price Paid per share: From €10.02 to €12.20 • Number of Share Option Exercises: 485 • Average number of options exercised 6,247 shares As of 22 March 2005, AIB's total shares in issue numbered 918,435,570, inclusiveof 47,360,489 shares held as Treasury Shares. Note: a. Under the rules of the UK Listing Authority, shares bought back by a company and held as Treasury Shares are not de-listed on the London Stock Exchange; their subsequent re-issue does not, therefore, require re-listing and, accordingly, the transactions referred to above do not affect the number of AIB shares listed on the London Stock Exchange. b. Prior to 29 November 2004, the practice of the Irish Stock Exchange ("ISE") was to de-list shares bought back by a listed company and held as Treasury Shares, and to require such companies to apply to re-list any such shares subsequently re-issued.
