Carillion PLC06 February 2006 6 February 2006 Carillion is preferred bidder for £137 million road maintenance contract Support services and construction company Carillion has been appointed preferredbidder for a road maintenance contract in Canada worth £137 million over sevenyears. Carillion Canada Inc has been appointed preferred bidder by the Alberta Ministryof Infrastructure and Transportation for five contract maintenance areas (CMAs).The five CMAs cover 5,670 equivalent two-lane kilometres of primary andsecondary roads in the north east and central regions of Alberta, west of theAlberta/Saskatchewan border. Key elements of the seven-year contract, which starts in August 2006, includesummer and winter road patrolling, wayside rest area maintenance, vegetationmanagement, sign, fence and guardrail maintenance, traffic markings, 24/7emergency traffic control and winter maintenance. This latest contract award consolidates Carillion's position as the largestprivate sector highway maintenance contractor in Canada. Carillion's chief executive John McDonough said: "This contract represents afurther significant step in development of our business in Canada, in line withour strategy of growing support services and PPP activities alongside aselective construction capability.
