INTERSERVE WINS £50m MIDDLE EAST CONTRACTS

Interserve, the services, maintenance and building group, has won three contracts worth £50 million in aggregate through its Middle East associate companies: a construction project in Dubai and two engineering /fabrication projects in Qatar.

The Dubai World Trade Centre is one of the world's leading commercial destinations. Interserve's Dubai associate, Khansaheb Civil Engineering, undertook a redevelopment of the site in 2007 and has now been appointed to construct the New Exhibition Halls there. The project, valued at approximately £37 million and due for completion this year, will provide approximately 100,000 sq m of covered exhibition space and will include the creation of administrative and functional areas, public assembly areas, meeting rooms, food service facilities, offices, loading docks, control rooms, entrance halls and external works.

In Qatar Interserve's associate Madina has won two contracts jointly worth approximately £13 million, both at Ras Laffan Industrial City though for different clients. For Baker Hughes, Madina will undertake engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning works at its solvents blending plant. The second project is for ORYX Gas To Liquids and entails structural and pipework manufacturing for its plant converting natural gas to low-sulphur, environmentally-friendly diesel, naphtha and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). These contracts will make use of the facilities Madina created in 2008 with its new fabrication facility at Ras Laffan.

Interserve's Chief Executive, Adrian Ringrose, commented, "These projects underline both the strength of the relationships we have with our clients in the Middle East and the capabilities of our companies there which, time and again, are trusted to deliver critical facilities to demanding schedules. It takes a combination of local knowledge and operational excellence to succeed in the region - which is something we have been doing for more than 25 years."
