18 July 2005 ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $40M TRENT 60 ORDER FOR SHARJAH POWER STATION EXPANSION Rolls-Royce said today that the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA)has chosen Trent 60 generation sets to power the latest phase of the Wasitpower plant expansion. The order is valued at over US$40 million.The contract, won in association with GECO Mechanical & Electrical Limited, isfor two Trent 60 dual-fuel generating sets with a combined output of almost80MW operating at 40 degrees C.Tom Curley, President of Rolls-Royce energy business, said: "SEWA will benefitgreatly from the Trent's high fuel efficiency and overall economics. It will beable to manage the fluctuations in power demand in a cost effective manner.Rolls-Royce is delighted to be part of this exciting electrical power expansionprogramme."The units, which are intended to operate for 5000 hours a year are scheduled tobe operational by the end of January 2007. Assembly will be undertaken at theRolls-Royce production plant at Mount Vernon, Ohio from where they will beshipped to Sharjah in the third quarter of 2006.GECO will be responsible for local transportation, installation/erection, andthe supervision of the commissioning in conjunction with Rolls-Royce.The Trent 60, developed from the Rolls-Royce Trent aero engine, is the mostadvanced aeroderivative gas turbine available today. With an efficiency of 42per cent, the engine has established a new benchmark for fuel economy and costsavings.SEWA's selection of the Trent 60 follows the 2004 order from Dolphin EnergyLimited for six Trent 60 Dry Low Emission (DLE) gas turbines to powercompressors along the Dolphin pipeline from Qatar to the UAE. The first two ofthese 70,000 horsepower gas compression packages will be shipped to Dolphin'sgas plant in Ras Laffan, Qatar.NOTE TO EDITORS 1.
