AMEC PLC01 March 2007 AMEC plc 1 March 2007 AMEC consortium awarded £500m National Grid contract A consortium comprising AMEC, the international project management and servicescompany, Babcock International and Mott MacDonald, has been awarded a five-year,£500m (AMEC's share: £237.5 million) contract to form an integrated Alliancewith National Grid for the upgrade of overhead power lines and undergroundcables across the western half of England and all of Wales. This follows the announcement in October 2006 of the consortium's appointment aspreferred partner for the work. It is one of six Alliance contracts to be awarded this week by National Grid.Worth a total of £2.5 billion over five years, the Alliance contracts representa significant part of the company's investment in the electricity transmissionnetwork. The consortium's work will enable new infrastructure such as wind farms andother electricity generation plant to be connected to the grid and will coverenhancement and replacement of existing assets to ensure the continuing safe andreliable operation of the high-voltage electricity network. "Helping the energy sector to deliver secure and efficient supplies is a majorpart of AMEC's strategy and vitally important to the future well-being of theUK," said Samir Brikho, AMEC's chief executive.
