AMEC awarded circa £100m contract by EDF Energy for West Burton gas-fired power station

London, United Kingdom (25 February 2009) - AMEC, the international engineering and project management company, has been awarded a circa £100 million contract by EDF Energy for the mechanical, electrical and instrumentation installation at EDF Energy's new 1,300MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power station at its West Burton site in NottinghamshireUK.

The contract will see AMEC play a major role in taking the station to completion in 2011, including the installation of the gas turbines, heat recovery steam generator and the balance of plant. The company begins mobilisation and planning work immediately and is expected to start on site in March.

CCGT technology is an efficient and clean method of fossil fuel power generation. EDF Energy has committed to reduce the intensity of CO2 emissions from its electricity production. To do this while helping to maintain security of supply for the UKEDF Energy is diversifying its generation portfolio and West Burton B is a key step in this overall strategy.

This award continues to position AMEC as a leading supplier in the growing energy CCGT market."

The contract, which was awarded following a competitive process, will be run from the Darlington offices of AMEC's Power and Process Europe business.
