16th Jun 2009 13:45

16 June 2009 ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $190M SHARE OF ETIHAD ORDER

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has won a $190m share in an order from Etihad for V2500 engines to power a total of 20 Airbus A320 family aircraft. The contract includes a long-term service agreement.

The V2500 is produced by the International Aero Engines consortium (IAE) in which Rolls-Royce is a senior shareholder. IAE's other partners are Pratt & Whitney, the Japanese Aero Engines Corporation and MTU Aero Engines.

James Hogan, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad, said: "We are dedicated to operating to the highest standards and part of that involves a commitment to the environment. By ensuring we introduce only the most advanced technology into our fleet, we can be a greener business. As the most environmentally-friendly engine on the A320 family, the V2500 has proved it helps us achieve this goal."

The 22,000 - 33,000lb thrust V2500 powers the Airbus A319, A320 and A321 family of aircraft as well as the Airbus Corporate Jetliner. More than 5,500 V2500 engines are in service or on firm order worldwide.
