Ultra Electronics Holdings PLC3 May 2005 Embargoed until 0700 3 May 2005 Ultra Electronics Holdings plc ("Ultra" or "the Group") Ultra wins US$10million ASW equipment contract for Canada Ultra announces that its Flightline Systems business, based in Rochester, NewYork, USA, has been awarded a contract by General Dynamics Canada ("GDC") toprovide digital sonobuoy receivers for the Canadian Forces Maritime HelicopterProgram ("MHP"). The contract for sonobuoy receivers and support is worth inexcess of US$10million. Sonobuoy receivers are a key element of the mission system of an Anti-SubmarineWarfare ("ASW") aircraft or helicopter. They receive the signals transmitted bysonobuoys, the air-launched acoustic sensors that are dropped into the sea todetect the presence and location of submarines. Ultra's sonobuoy receiversinclude features that allow the ASW aircraft to determine the position of thedeployed sonobuoys at some distance, obviating the need to keep flying overthem. The aircraft is therefore less vulnerable to attack. Sikorsky Aircraft is the prime contractor for MHP and will be providing twentyeight H-92 Cyclone helicopters. GDC is the mission system integrator and, inaddition to supplying the acoustic processing suite incorporating the sonobuoyreceiver, is responsible for total aircraft system integration. For the MHPprogram, Ultra will supply the sonobuoy receiver configured on cards that willbe fully integrated within the acoustic processor supplied by GDC. Ultra is the recognised leader in the supply of sonobuoy receivers and providessystems for maritime patrol aircraft, anti-submarine warfare helicopters andsurface combatants world wide. In addition, Ultra supplies the majority of thefree world's sonobuoys. Douglas Caster, Chief Executive of Ultra, commented:"I am very pleased that Ultra will be supplying its world-leading equipment toCanada's new ASW helicopter and look forward to supporting the programme formany years to come. This approach of integrating the receiver and processor isanother example of Ultra's innovation providing competitive advantage to ourcustomers." - Ends - Enquiries:Ultra Electronics Holdings plc 020 8813 4321Douglas Caster, Chief Executive www.ultra-electronics.comAndy Hamment, Group Marketing Director [email protected] Weber Shandwick Square Mile 020 7067 0700Susan Ellis / Susanne Walker / Stephanie Badjonat Notes to editors: Ultra Electronics is a group of specialist businesses designing, manufacturingand supporting electronic and electromechanical systems, sub-systems andproducts for defence, security and aerospace applications worldwide.
