Ultra Electronics Holdings PLC15 March 2005 Ultra Electronics Holdings plc ("Ultra" or "the Group") Ultra wins £9m airport IT contract in New Zealand Ultra Electronics announces that its Airport Systems business, based inManchester, England, has been selected to provide a fully managed passengerbaggage reconciliation service at all seven international airports in NewZealand. The contract will be worth in excess of £9m over the first 5 years ofservice. Ultra was selected by the Board of Airline Representatives, New Zealand(BARNZ) which represents the 25 airlines that will use the system. The system inNew Zealand will handle in excess of five million passengers per year. At the heart of the managed service will be the industry-leading UltraTrakTMbaggage reconciliation and management solution. UltraTrak is used to improveairline safety by ensuring that the only checked baggage carried in the hold ofthe aircraft belongs to passengers who board the aircraft. This is achievedthrough making a positive match between passengers and bags at the time ofboarding and baggage loading. If a passenger is a 'no-show' at the gate, anychecked baggage can quickly be offloaded as UltraTrak also records the exactlocation in the aircraft of each item of baggage. Delays are therefore reducedand the cost penalty to the airline of missing take-off slots is minimised. Ultra has supplied and installed about 40 UltraTrak baggage reconciliationsystems at airports around the world. Ultra's largest installation, at London'sHeathrow airport, has operated successfully throughout 2004, its first full yearof operation, meeting the required availability and reliability levels whilsthandling over 25 million items of baggage. Stewart Milne, Executive Director, BARNZ, said:"Ultra's excellent and proven reputation for service delivery at both LondonHeathrow and in North America gave BARNZ the confidence that Ultra was capableof meeting our exacting service requirements." Douglas Caster, Chief Operating Officer of Ultra, commented:"Ultra is very pleased to have been entrusted with responsibility for providinga country-wide managed service for passenger baggage reconciliation. Wins suchas this one in New Zealand demonstrate customer confidence in Ultra's ability todeliver effective airport IT solutions around the world." - Ends - Enquiries:Ultra Electronics Holdings plc 020 8813 4321Dr Julian Blogh, Chief Executive www.ultra-electronics.comDouglas Caster, Chief Operating Officer information@ultra-electronics.com Weber Shandwick Square Mile 020 7067 0700Susan Ellis / Susanne Walker / Stephanie Badjonat Notes to editors:Ultra Electronics is a group of specialist businesses designing, manufacturingand supporting electronic and electromechanical systems, sub-systems andproducts for defence, security and aerospace applications worldwide.
