Scottish & Southern Energy PLC19 January 2007 SCOTTISH AND SOUTHERN ENERGY PLC PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT WITH VIKING ENERGY LTD Scottish and Southern Energy plc ("SSE") has today signed a partnershipagreement with Viking Energy Ltd ("Viking Energy"), the company established torepresent Shetland Islands Council's interests in wind farm development, whichis intended to lead to the development on Shetland's Central Mainland of a 600MWwind farm. Each organisation has a 50 per cent stake in the partnership and its creationfollows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding by SSE and Viking Energyduring 2005. Under the agreement, the new partnership will, later this year, submit aplanning application for the wind farm. Its development is subject to, amongstother things, planning consent being secured and to the construction of asub-sea cable between Shetland and the mainland of Scotland. Sir Robert Smith, Chairman, who signed the partnership agreement for SSE inShetland today, said: "SSE has a long-established track record in renewable energy and ambitious plansfor the future. This agreement helps pave the way for a renewable energy projectwhich can be a world leader in terms of scale, the richness of the naturalresources being harnessed and the involvement of the local community. Ourpartnership with Viking Energy is an exciting and significant step forward and Iam optimistic that our joint venture for this leading-edge renewable energyproject will become a reality."
